This Huffington Post article posted in November of 2011 discusses the author’s opinion that there is no stigma against mental illness. DJ Jaffe states that while stigma existed against mental illness, however in the 21st century this stigma no longer exists and has been easily eradicated. Jaffe describes how this process was accomplished. He also calls on the elimination of policies that had originally aimed to prevent stigma from appearing in the workplace, claiming that stigma no longer exists in order to justify these policies to exist. This article plays a significant role in this assignment as I am using this article to support the stakeholder that claims the stigma against the mentally ill does not exist.

National Alliance on Mental Illness provided multiple sets of statistics in this article “Mental Health By The Numbers.” This article features several pictures to visually explain the amount of data collected on mental illness in an easy to understand manner. The article also includes different types of statistics, such as the prevalence of mental illness, social aspects, the consequences of lack of treatment for mental illnesses and sources to continue research on mental illness. By provided multiple areas of statistics, NAMI gives proper stats on the mentally ill and provides information on what could happen with lack of treatment. This helps give my paper a definition of how many mentally ill exist in the United States and how lack of treatment affects them.
